• Impakt is an independent company with two shareholders (2 x 50%) and a starting capital of 1.5 m Bef.

Impakt was started on October 15, 1988 by three persons, two from the University of Ghent, and one industrial partner. In November, 1988 the first large development project started with the company Somati in the domain of konwledge-based fire prevention. This project was soon followed by many consulting assignments and other large scale development projects: a logistics planning project for the new container terminal of the port of Antwerp, and a knowledge-based sales support application for Monsanto International.
The effort of Impakt's team was rewarded in June, 1990 by being twice nominated for best application on the Artificial Intelligence Conference at Maastricht (The Netherlands), as well as being selected twice by The King Boudewijn Foundation for a business consultancy fund as promising young entrepreneurs.

Impakt has built an excellent reputation not only as software developer and consultant in the domain of AI and optimization but also as hardware provider in the scientific and technical market, and as solution provider in network security and management software.
Impakt is an IBM Business Partner, Authorized Agent for McAfee Associates, and has many other privileged relations with vendors in scientific and technical computing.
Impakt has also, through project cooperations and seminar sponsoring, built an excellent professional relations with different important research institutes, laboratories and universities throughout Belgium.

Current development activities of Impakt are focused on planning and scheduling. For the distribution and transport sector Impakt developed OptiROUTE, an optimization system for multi-vehicle distribution, which is a major breakthrough after five man years of research and development.
For hospitals and distribution Impakt built PLANE, a personnel planning system with a very advanced GUI.
